Every clinic owner says the same thing: good therapists are hard to find. They are easier to find when you can honestly promise the one thing most clinics cannot: a column that fills. Here is how Arissa’s clinic grew to 17+ therapists, and what any clinic can copy.
Demand first, hiring second
A new therapist without clients is a cost and a flight risk. Grow demand before you post the job, so the new hire starts with bookings on the calendar. That is the single most attractive line in any posting: “You will be busy from week one.” See how Arissa scaled to 17+ therapists.
Where to find them
- Massage school career offices and graduating classes.
- Your own clients who are therapists or know one.
- Association job boards and local RMT/LMT groups.
- Referrals from your existing team, with a bonus.
Write a posting a therapist actually answers
- Pay structure, stated plainly. Split, hourly or salary, with realistic numbers.
- How clients arrive: marketing that fills the column, a live booking team, no self-promotion required.
- Hours and flexibility.
- What the room, linens, laundry and supplies situation is.
- Culture in two sentences, not a paragraph of adjectives.
What to ask in the interview
- How do you handle a client who is late, or who rebooks with someone else?
- Walk me through your intake for a new client with low-back pain.
- What is your rebooking rate, roughly?
- What would make you stay somewhere for five years?
Then a practical treatment. Skills matter, but how they treat clients between appointments decides retention.
Onboarding that protects rebooking
Pair the new therapist with your busiest clients’ overflow, script the rebooking ask at the table, and review rebooking rate at 30 and 60 days. A new hire who loses the clients marketing paid for is expensive.
Why poaching backfires
A therapist who leaves a competitor for a raise leaves you for the next one. Hire on the promise of a full book and a good place to work, and keep it.
We ramp demand ahead of hiring for multi-therapist clinics so new columns fill in weeks.
